102 Turkish Players Suspended Following Gambling Scandal, Including Galatasaray Defender

The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) issued temporary suspensions to 102 players
Turkish League
against them on Thursday (13/11) in the aftermath of a widespread gambling scandal.

reported that bans from playing were given to 25 players from the elite Super Lig competition and 77 other players from second caste competition clubs.Suspension sanctions vary from 45 days to 12 months.
Galatasaray and Türkiye national team defender Eren Elmali has been suspended for 45 days.Meanwhile Türkiye U-21 teammate and center back, Metehan Baltaci, was suspended for nine months.

Elmali posted a statement on Instagram this week that he bet on one of the games about five years ago.However, the bet did not involve his own team and he only joined Galatasaray this year.
More than 1,000 players have been included in the investigation list of the Professional Football Disciplinary Committee.The investigation process is still ongoing today.
TFF decided to stop third and fourth caste competitions for two weeks.However, Galatasaray-led Super Lig and the second division continued.
TFF President Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu this week vowed to rid Turkish football of corruption, scandals and gambling practices.
“We took office 16 months ago with a promise to raise Turkish football to the level it deserves,” Haciosmanoglu said.
“We will not compromise in our fight to protect Turkish football from scandal, damage and corruption,” he added.
Previously, the TFF had also punished 149 referees and assistant referees, for alleged cases of gambling during matches in the Turkish League on October 31.
