Quoting from the official website of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Dudy said that various anticipatory steps to maintain smooth and safe travel will be taken during the upcoming Christmas holiday period.
The Minister of Transportation said that the largest passenger movements are predicted to come from densely populated provinces on the island of Java with destinations also concentrated in that region. However, the government ensures that supervision continues to be carried out thoroughly.
“Travel destinations are dominated by Central Java province with 20.23 million people, followed by East Java and West Java,” he said.
“Even though it is not included in the top 10 in the survey, we will pay close attention to areas that celebrate Christmas, such as Maluku, Papua and West Kalimantan,” he said.
In terms of transportation modes, private cars still dominate people’s choice of travel at the end of the year and are followed by other modes of transportation. The government has prepared supporting transportation facilities and infrastructure, including land, sea, air, rail and crossing modes of transportation.
“For land transportation, we have prepared 31,433 buses, sea transportation 711 ships, rail transportation 2,670 trains, air transportation 368 planes, ferry transportation 253 crossing ships,” said the Minister of Transportation.
Vehicles on the island of Bali increased by 10 percent
Meanwhile, on Wednesday (17/12), the Head of the National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas), Inspector General Pol Agus Suryonugroho, said that the movement of vehicles in and out of Bali Island during the Christmas holidays would increase by 10 percent near the end of 2025.
“If there is a projected increase in the number of vehicles, it is almost 7 to 10 percent from normal days. And compared to last year (2024), there is also an increase, both goods vehicles including passenger vehicles,” said Inspector General Agus, when met at the Bali Police Traffic Directorate Office in Denpasar, Wednesday afternoon.
He said that his party had held a meeting with the Ketapang-Gilimanuk River, Lake and Ferry Transport (ASDP) and that the increase in vehicles would also have an impact on Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.
“So, accumulated and explained, there is an increase of 10 percent which we have to manage. This includes the impact later on the airport in Bali and how many tourists are present, we will see later. Later this will be related to the existing parameters of traffic in Bali,” he added.
For the 2025-2026 Christmas Candle Operation, he said it would be held from December 20, 2025 to January 2, 2026.
Then the flow of vehicles will start to become denser on the island of Bali, which is predicted to occur before December 20th.However, the peak will occur on December 24, 2025.
“The 24th is a fairly significant peak flow. Both from Gilimanuk Harbor, including other ports, including at the airport. This has been predicted by everyone,” he explained.
In order to anticipate extreme weather such as natural disasters, namely floods and landslides during Christmas, the party has mapped four clusters.First, manage toll roads and arterials or main public roads, including alternative roads.
Then, guarantee security at all port crossings in Indonesia such as Gilimanuk-Ketapang Port, Merak Port, Cilegon City, Banten, Bakauheni Port, Lampung.
Then, if a contingency or extreme weather condition occurs such as floods, landslides, an emergency plan has been prepared.
For example, if there are big waves in the Ketapang-Gilimanuk waters so that crossings cannot be carried out, then the authorities already have a scenario to overcome the accumulation of passengers and vehicles at the port.
“We have prepared this. So
emergency
We have prepared how to act.Do we, prepare
bubble zone
, do we prepare
rest area
to store vehicles that cannot cross,” said Kakorlantas Polri.
