Remission is given to prisoners who are deemed to fulfill administrative and substantive requirements, including having good behavior and actively participating in the coaching program.
The granting of remissions takes place simultaneously throughout Indonesia through regional offices and correctional work units.
According to Mashudi, this remission is a form of state appreciation for inmates who show positive behavioral changes while serving their criminal term.
Remission recipients are inmates who have participated in various coaching activities, including religious activities.
Some of them received a reduction in their prison term of up to two months, while others were immediately released after their sentence was completed minus remission.
“This is a form of appreciation for the inmates who have been following the training well. Some have received remission for one month, two months, and some have even been released straight away,” said Mashudi.
Apart from that, Mashudi said, specifically in Jakarta there were 610 inmates who received Special Remission for Christmas this year.
The reduction in the sentence period varies, from 15 days to two months, depending on the results of the correctional team’s assessment.
The series of remission proposal processes is carried out in stages through Correctional Observer Team (TPP) sessions, starting from the prison level, regional offices to the Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas).
“The process is not difficult as long as the conditions are met. There are four main criteria that are assessed, including discipline in following coaching. If there is a violation, of course it cannot be proposed,” he said.
According to Mashudi, not all inmates can be viewed solely from past mistakes. Many of them are now showing positive changes.
“The inmates are extraordinary. They motivate us because they want to take part in the coaching,” he said.
