A total of two members of the President’s cabinet

resigned in the wake of the flood control project corruption scandal.
Deputy Minister of Presidential Communications Claire Castro said the two officials were Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin and Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman.Castro said his second letter of resignation had been received by Bongbong.

“Both officials respectfully submitted their resignations as a form of responsibility after their departments were dragged into allegations related to the flood control scandal which is currently under investigation,” Castro said on Monday (17/11), as quoted from

Finance Minister Ralph Recto has been appointed as Bersamin’s replacement.Deputy Budget Minister Rolando Toledo has also been asked to take Pangandaman’s position.
Special Assistant to the President for Investment and Economic Affairs Secretary Frederick Go will reportedly replace Recto as finance minister.
Bersamin and Pangandaman’s resignation occurred in the middle of an investigation into a corruption case involving a flood control project in the Philippines.The names of two officials were recently dragged as those who knew about the beginning of the scandal, based on claims by Zaldy Co, a former member of parliament and former ally of Bongbong.
Co was among Philippine officials indicted this week for their role in a corruption scandal.Co argued that Bongbong had ordered him to include the P100 billion (around IDR 28 trillion) project in the 2025 national budget.
Bongbong has denied the allegations.
The Philippines has been hit by a flood control project corruption scandal after severe floods submerged parts of the country for weeks.
The government suspects that billions of pesos are missing in the flood control project, which has been running since 2022.
Bongbong was the first to reveal the anomaly of the flood control project in his fourth state speech.After the inspection, Bongbong said that a number of well-known contractors had ‘played’ in this public project.
Bongbong then formed an independent body tasked with investigating corruption cases in flood control projects.He has vowed to put all those involved in prison by the end of this year.
