The action of the two went viral on social media because they brandished a firearm when their action was thwarted by the victim.
“The Resmob Sub-Directorate of the Ditreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya succeeded in arresting two perpetrators of attempted motor vehicle theft which went viral on social media while brandishing firearms when the action was thwarted by the victim,” said Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Budi Hermanto in his statement, Sunday (30/11).

Based on CCTV footage, two perpetrators were initially seen coming to the shop parking lot on motorbikes.They appeared to be using helmets and masks to cover their faces while in action.
Then, one of the perpetrators acting as a motorbike driver was seen waiting, while another person approached the parked motorbike.
However, the theft failed because the victim discovered it.In a tight situation, the perpetrator then pointed a gun at the victim.
“In a state of urgency, one of the perpetrators then pointed a firearm at the victim before finally managing to escape,” said Budi.
After the incident, the victim immediately reported it to the authorities.Based on this report, the police carried out an investigation and succeeded in arresting the two perpetrators at a house in Banjaran Pucung Village, Tapos Depok in the early hours of Wednesday (26/11).
During the arrest, the police also found a homemade firearm and three bullets lying on the floor of the house.
“To the officers, the perpetrator admitted that he often used firearms when carrying out thefts to protect himself,” said Budi.
Currently, the two perpetrators have been taken to Polda Metro Jaya for further examination.The two perpetrators were charged under the Emergency Law regarding possession of illegal firearms, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison.
