There are two names that have always won gold from 2019 to 2023, and now have the potential to win a fourth gold.
The Indonesian men’s volleyball squad has had a chance to retain gold since the 2019 SEA Games. After breaking the dominance of Thailand, which ruled the highest podium at the SEA Games from 2011 to 2018, the Indonesian National Volleyball Team took over as kings six years ago.
Of the 14 names chosen by coach Jeff Jiang Jie at the current SEA Games, there are two players who have competed for the Red and White since 2019 and are choices in 2021 and 2023.

The names of the two players are Rivan Nurmulki and Fahreza Rakha Abhinaya.Both of them often become Indonesia’s mainstay in international events.Rivan usually acts as a ‘beater’ in the opposite position, while Rakha is a receiver and distributor of the ball in the libero position.
In 2019, Rakha was still a junior player at 20 years old.Meanwhile, six years ago Rivan was still 24 years old.
Apart from Rakha and Rivan, there are several names that have also been called at the previous edition of the SEA Games.Agil Angga Anggara entered the Indonesian National Volleyball Team at the 2019 SEA Games, but was absent from the 2021 edition, and returned again two years ago.
There is also Daffa Naufal who participated in defending Indonesia at the 2021 SEA Games. Meanwhile, the 2023 SEA Games alumni apart from Rivan, Rakha, and Agil Angga are Fahri Septian Putratama, Hendra Kurniawan, and Boy Arnez Arabi.
Indonesia will face Thailand in the men’s volleyball final which will take place at the Indor Huamark Stadium, Bangkok, Friday (19/12).
If they succeed in winning gold, Indonesia will repeat its achievements from 1987 to 1993 when it managed to defend SEA Games gold four times in a row.
