“As soon as we received the report, we immediately dispatched a rescue team from the Cirebon SAR Post to carry out a search,” said Ade in his statement in Indramayu, Saturday.
He explained that from the information received, the incident began when seven Indramayu State Polytechnic students were rafting from Legok Dam to Karet Bangkir Dam.
While they were at the dam site, he said, the rubber boat they were riding in was hit by the river current, causing five students to fall into the water, while two others stayed on the boat.
“Indramayu State Polytechnic students were rafting from Legok Dam and while they were at Karet Bangkir Dam, the boat was hit by the river current,” he said.
He said that of the five students who fell, three managed to save themselves, while the other two were swept away by the river current.
He said officers in the field continued to search along the river and the area around the Karet Bangkir Dam to find the whereabouts of the two students.
This search, he said, involved combined elements from the Cirebon SAR Post, Indramayu Police Water Police and the help of local residents.
As of Saturday afternoon, search operations were still ongoing and the joint SAR Team remained on standby at the location to find the two students who disappeared in the disaster.
“Until now, the two students are still in the process of being searched by the joint SAR team,” he said.
