In the letter it was decided by FIFA, the referee who would lead the Indonesian match versus Saudi Arabia was at the King Abdullah Sport City Hall Stadium Ahmad Al Ali from Kuwait.
This is in accordance with FIFA’s letter dated September 12, 2025 signed by the Head of Qualifiers and International Matches FIFA, Gordon Savic.This letter was passed on to AFC.
FIFA’s decision was sued by PSSI Chairperson Erick Thohir.PSSI feels that FIFA’s decision is not wise, because the referee in charge of coming from West Asia or the Middle East.
According to Erick, ideally the Indonesian national team match versus Saudi Arabia is led by referees who are not from West Asia and Southeast Asia.The referee from East Asia is considered PSSI more appropriate.
On Tuesday (9/16), Erick said PSSI had written to FIFA and AFC.PSSI hopes that FIFA will correct the decision to assign referees from Kuwait in the Indonesian match.
Moreover, there is a bad story between Indonesia and Kuwait in recent times.In the international calendar for the September 2025 period, Indonesia and Kuwait had agreed to hold a trial match.
