When the flood hit, Panji and his family rushed to the highlands before deciding to walk to the evacuation post which was about 10-12 kilometers from their house.
“We walked to the refugee camp, which is around 10 to 12 kilometers from our house. We found out that there was a refugee post there after asking people. At that post, there were around 1,000 refugees,” he said.
When he left home, this alumnus of the Master of Communication Sciences at the Muhammadiyah University of North Sumatra (UMSU) only had time to save his cellphone, laptop and diploma.
“I could only save my cellphone, laptop and diploma. Everything else was gone. The flood happened very quickly. Nothing else could be saved,” he said.
Panji admitted that he was very hungry on the way to the refugee camp, there was nothing to eat. They also cited food left over from the flood that they got on the way.
“Last Friday, November 28 2025, our family almost died of starvation. We also ate leftovers from the flood. We also asked people for a little rice,” he explained.
Until now, aid has not arrived at the refugee camp.Even electricity and internet access in a number of Aceh Tamiang areas is still cut off. This condition makes it difficult for residents to communicate and report the current situation.
“There has been looting everywhere. All Alfamarts and Indomarets have been looted. People here are already starving. Currently the internet network is sometimes on, sometimes off. Electricity is still totally out, so many residents can’t access social media. Fuel oil (BBM) is also scarce,” he said.
For assistance with fuel oil (BBM), Tuesday night (2/12), they went to the location. However, retail gasoline is sold at IDR 70 thousand per liter.
“Here, fuel is sold for Rp. 70 thousand per liter and that is very scarce. We hope that help will come soon, so that we can save the refugees from the crisis conditions we are facing,” he explained.
