Previously, Hanif reported that he carried out an inspection of the company in the Batang Tour watershed after carrying out air monitoring. From aerial monitoring, he said, it could be seen that there were changes in the natural landscape which were thought to have triggered the intensity of flooding in the area.
According to him, there are at least three main sources that worsen flooding in Batang Toru.
”
We identified at least three main sources that exacerbate flooding, industrial forest plantation activities, massive hydroelectric development, and gold mining activities in the Batang Toru watershed. All of this contributes significantly to environmental stress,
” Hanif wrote on his social media account.
Initial identification is carried out through a combination of aerial monitoring and direct inspection in the field at points suspected of increasing the load of water runoff.Conditions in the upstream watershed are also worsened by the large expanse of agricultural land, both dry land and wet land, which reduces the soil’s ability to absorb rainwater.
Furthermore, Hanif said the KLH continues to carry out thorough field verification to ensure that all findings can be followed up with precise corrective actions. However, he said that environmental restoration cannot be carried out in parts, and must view the entire ecosystem as one unit.
