(PTAR) responded to the statement regarding its existence
Martabe Gold Mine
which is linked to causing landslides and floods in Batang Toru District, South Tapanuli, North Sumatra.
“Our findings show that directly linking the operations of the Martabe Gold Mine to the flash flood incident in Garoga Village is a premature and inappropriate conclusion,” explained PTAR in its official release, Tuesday (2/12).
The company claims that the main point of flooding occurred in Garoga Village which is in the Garoga River Watershed (DAS) sub-area.Then, it spread to several villages, such as Huta Godang, Batu Horing, Sitinjak, and Aek Ngadol.

Meanwhile, PTAR’s operations are in the Aek Pahu sub-watershed.They claim that hydrologically the mining location is separate from the Garoga watershed.
“Even though the two rivers meet, the meeting point is far downstream from Garoga Village and continues to flow to the west coast of Sumatra, so PTAR activities in the Aek Pahu watershed are not directly related to the disaster in Garoga,” claims Agincourt Resources.
They claim to always comply with all applicable regulations, including related permits.PTAR specifically claims to comply with regulations relating to environmental protection.
According to the company, the Martabe Gold Mine has so far carried out mining activities entirely in the Other Use Area (APL).This location is said to be outside the Batang Toru forest area.
During its operations, the company also claims to continue to support environmental protection efforts including water, air and land conservation, and furthermore biodiversity conservation in collaboration with national and global institutions.
“On the other hand, we fully support comprehensive and independent studies to produce appropriate conclusions which are vital in mitigating disaster risks in the future,” added PTAR.
