“Under the Ministry of Public Works, we are tasked with sending heavy equipment to help quickly with landslides or floods as well as repairing vital, essential facilities,” he explained.
According to AHY, improving infrastructure is very important, especially roads and bridges which are the main access for community mobility. However, the government is currently focusing primarily on rescuing residents who may still be trapped in disaster areas.
“So the first stage is emergency response first, disasters, rescuing residents, but after that we map it out at the same time, because conditions are not always easy so that development can be carried out immediately, but we will definitely carry out development as soon as possible,” said AHY.
In accordance with President Prabowo Subianto’s direction, he emphasized that his agency wanted to ensure that the process of evacuating residents at the location and surrounding areas would be the main priority.
“We want to ensure human rescue first, medical evacuation, but also drop logistics, because so many have been cut off once again,” said AHY.
Flash floods and landslides in the Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra regions have killed more than 190 people.
