Framework (

) and the substance of the Indonesia-US trade agreement, according to Airlangga, has been agreed upon by both countries. The next process is a technical team meeting on January 12 2026-January 19 2026 to carry out legal drafting and clean up of the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) document.
After that, President Prabowo Subianto will fly to the US to meet President Donald Trump. The two of them are planned to jointly sign the ART document at the end of January 2026.
“Of course, this completion target is linked to the agenda of the meeting between President Prabowo and President Trump, so this is a milestone in itself. Regarding what was discussed, it is entirely in accordance with the discussion in the agreement as of July 22 (2025). Of course, the main thing is to provide balance for market access for products in America, at the same time it is also related to market access for Indonesia to America,” he explained.
“The US provides exceptions to tariffs on our superior products, such as palm oil, coffee, tea… There are no policies in Indonesia that are limited by this agreement. And of course this agreement is commercial, strategic and benefits the economic interests of both countries in a balanced manner,” continued Airlangga.
According to Airlangga, there were no significant problems in the discussion. He said the dynamics that emerged were normal, one of which was related to language harmonization.
He said Indonesia had also fulfilled America’s request regarding deregulation.Airlangga emphasized that the government had formed a task force to carry out the debottlenecking process, aka unraveling a number of non-tariff barriers.
“So, that is something that is normal in discussions to reach an agreement on ART. Apart from trade agreements, we are not discussing other agreements because this is purely an agreement on reciprocal trade,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Ambassador to the US, Indroyono Soesilo, emphasized that his party had started preparing to welcome President Prabowo Subianto’s arrival in Uncle Sam’s country.
“Of course, now we at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia are counting down, counting down the days to prepare for the visit of the President (Prabowo) which is planned for the end of January 2026. While waiting for instructions from Jakarta later, we have started preparing. Hopefully everything can run smoothly and God willing, when an agreement has been agreed it can be implemented immediately,” said Indroyono.
