“Rinjani has been open for climbing for 9 months and Rinjani needs rest too, so we will close the climbing at the beginning of January and God willing, it will reopen in early April,” said Head of Section (Kasi) Region II TNGR, Ma’ruf Hadi, at the TNGR Resort Sembalun Office, Saturday (20/12) as quoted from
detikBali.
Ma’ruf explained that the climbing closure would take effect on December 31 2025. Until that date, Mount Rinjani climbing activities were still open to visitors.
“Climbing activities are still open for the time being, the last date will be December 31, both climbers via trekking organizers and general climbers who

independently,” explained Ma’ruf.
He explained that during the closure period, the TNGR Center would carry out repairs on a number of climbing routes that were damaged due to rain.
Damaged paths, he said, could potentially endanger the safety of climbers.
“Yesterday we received reports from friends regarding several landslide points, one of which was on the ‘dragon route’. We have closed the route by opening an alternative route. That will also be a priority for us to carry out repairs,” said Ma’ruf.
More than 120 thousand climbers
Head of the TNGR Hall Administrative Subdivision, Astekita Ardiaristo, revealed data on tourist visits to Mount Rinjani until November 2025. The total number of visitors was recorded at 124,649 people.
This number consists of 42,720 foreign tourists and 81,929 domestic climbers or from within Indonesia.
“That’s data on visitors from all the climbing gates to Mount Rinjani, and in December this data will still increase by a lot

Other tourist attractions
Meanwhile, non-climbing tourist attractions in the TNGR area, such as Savana Propok, Gedong Hill, Top Kondo, and a number of other hills in the Sembalun area, remain open as usual.
Astekita said that this location could be an alternative tourist destination for visitors who originally wanted to climb Mount Rinjani.
“There are hills around Sembalun. There is also Gedong Hill, as well as Savana Popok, this could also be an alternative for climbers who want to climb for those who miss the peak of Rinjani,” he said.
