Alwi lost 13-21 in the first game. The Surakarta-born athlete then recovered and won 21-8 in the second game. The 20-year-old then won 21-12 in the third game and secured gold at the 2025 SEA Games.
Facing a fierce match, Alwi praised Ubed after the match.
“What the 18 year old Ubed did is very unreasonable in my opinion. He can play like now, like a player who has been at the top level for a long time.”
“Hopefully in the future whatever Ubed and I go through as well as the men’s singles team in the future can be better. Yes, today might be my day, hopefully in the future we will look for another all-final-all final for Indonesian men’s singles,” said Alwi, quoted from the PBSI release.
Alwi is grateful to be able to win the title at this year’s Southeast Asian Games by fighting and not giving up.
“Thank God, I never thought this title would come with what I’ve been through this whole year. Before playing the Sea Games, I experienced tough moments, but I appreciate myself enough because I don’t give up easily whatever the circumstances,” said Alwi.
“I still want to survive, I still want to learn and no matter what I can do, I can survive until this moment. This is thanks to the good fortune that Allah has given me and the support from my parents, from my coach and also my psychologist who always accompanies me every day,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ubed explained that he lost in the second and third games after winning the first game.Ubed also praised Alwi.
“I want to say thank you, thank God I was able to play smoothly even though the results were less than satisfactory. I am very grateful to have come this far, being able to enter the final at the SEA Games for the first time,” said Ubed.
“In the first game he played well, but in the second game there were movements that might have gone wrong so he wasn’t comfortable playing, his movements also became uncomfortable. But apart from that, Alwi played very well, very cleverly and his enthusiasm was extraordinary.”
