According to the boss of the National Food Agency (Bapanas), rice in this area must be transported by plane, so logistics costs are high.
“Especially (rice) is medium in Papua. It’s a bit difficult because you have to take a plane. Rice has to take a plane. We’ve met with the governor, the regent. That’s a must, we discussed it earlier, it turns out you have to take a plane,” said Amran at the 2025 Regional Inflation Control Coordination Meeting, Tuesday (4/11).

Amran said that the government, through Bapanas, had sent a team to directly monitor the price of rice in 51 districts and cities which recorded an increase.
“We have asked Bapanas for all regions where prices are high with their director general, their deputies. It went down immediately. The command post was there. Build a good system, then collaborate with (Perum) Bulog. Bulog is a market intervention for rice. Then Bapanas monitors it as a regulator,” he said.
Based on the data presented, a number of regions in Papua recorded increases in rice prices of up to around 7 percent throughout October 2025.
Intan Jaya Regency recorded the highest price increase, namely 7.68 percent in the fourth week of October.Significant increases also occurred in Puncak Jaya, Pulang Pisau and East Barito Regencies.
In total, there are 51 districts/cities in Indonesia that have recorded increases in rice prices as of October 2025, including areas in West Java, Banten, Lampung, and East Kalimantan.
Amran added that teams from Bapanas and Bulog have been deployed to all areas to ensure rice distribution runs smoothly and reduce price disparities between regions.
Even so, Amran ensured that national rice stocks and production were in safe conditions.
“But the most important thing now is that we are self-sufficient in rice thanks to the hard work of all of us. God willing, corn is safe, rice, chicken. Chicken really makes it increase. This is good, this increase is good because there is MBG (free nutritious food). This is the strategic program of the President (Prabowo Subianto). There is economic movement in the villages,” he said.
