Surakarta Palace, Kanjeng Gusti Pangeran Adipati Anom (KGPAA) Hamangkunagoro Sudibyo Rajaputra Narendra Mataram declared his vow to ascend the throne of the Surakarta Palace, Wednesday (5/11).

Hamangkunagoro made this pledge after reading a speech releasing the body of SISKS Pakubuwono XIII.He thanked the mourners who had paid obeisance to swargi.

“I, KGPAA Hamangkunagoro Sudibyo Rajaputra Narendra Mataram, today, Wednesday Legi 14 Jumadil Awal dal 1959, or November 5 2025, ascend the throne of Kasunanan Surakarta Hadiningrat with the title SISKS Pakubuwana XIV,” he said shortly before releasing his father’s body.
KGPAA Hamangkunegaro or Kanjeng Gusti Pangeran Harya (KGPH) Purbaya was the son of PB XIII and the empress GKR Pakubuwana (or KRAy Pradapaningsih).He was only 21 years old when he was crowned crown prince.
Born with the name Gusti Raden Mas Suryo Aryo Mustiko, then when he was appointed his title changed to KGPH Purbaya or KGPAA Hamangkunegoro.
Since childhood, he grew up in a palace environment that was steeped in Javanese customs and spiritual values.He is known to be quiet, dignified and diligent in studying court etiquette and traditions from senior courtiers.
Even though he was raised in a noble environment, Gusti Purboyo received a modern formal education.He completed his studies at the Faculty of Law, Diponegoro University (Undip), Semarang.
It didn’t stop there, in August 2025 he was accepted into the Masters Program in Politics and Government at Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Yogyakarta.
This education is considered important for the next generation of the palace to understand modern governance and bridge traditional values with the challenges of the times.
For courtiers, Gusti Purboyo is known as a young figure who is polite and easy to get along with.He often takes part directly in cultural activities, traditional ceremonies, and supports programs to preserve classical Javanese arts such as wayang, gamelan and bedhaya dance.
Purbaya was officially designated as crown prince when he was called with the full title KGPAA Hamangkunegoro Sudibyo Rajaputra Narendro Mataram at the 18th anniversary ceremony of his accession to the throne or Tingalan dalem Jumenengan Sampeyan dalem Ingkang Sinuhun Kanjeng Susuhunan (SISKS) Paku Buwono (PB) XIII at the Solo Palace on February 27 2022.
When he was crowned crown prince with the title Kanjeng Gusti Pangeran Adipati Anom Hamangkunagara Sudibya Rajaputra Narendra Mataram, he was still studying as a student at the Faculty of Law at Diponegoro University, Semarang.
The Solo Palace Parentah Organizer KGPH Dipokusumo or Gusti Dipo who carried out the coronation said that the inauguration of the son of the Solo Palace King PB XIII Hangabehi had been carried out with family deliberation.
However, there are also parties within the palace who say that Purbaya’s appointment as crown prince of the Surakarta Palace was carried out not according to custom.
PB XIII is known to have seven children from his three marriages.Apart from Purbaya, who is known to have played puppeteer since childhood, PB XIII has another son named GRM Suryo Suharto or KGPH Mangkubumi.
