“I think this is a real London derby. The match was very intense,” Arteta was quoted as saying
Sky Sports
.
“You could feel from the start that every duel and action had something interesting. Both teams were very ambitious to win and didn’t have much possession of the ball,” Arteta added.
The Spanish tactician believed that the many free kicks and yellow cards made the game not flow too much.
Therefore, the draw against the tenacity of 10 Chelsea players was a valuable lesson for Arteta.
“Today we should have won the match, but we failed to do so. This is a lesson for me,” said Arteta on the club’s official website.
The draw at Chelsea headquarters meant that Arsenal failed to increase the gap at the top of the standings. The Gunners are still in top position, but are only five points away from closest rival Manchester City.
Chelsea is lurking in third place with 24 points. The team from West London is only ahead on goal difference from Aston Villa who are in fourth place.
