This was stated by the Head of the Administration Section (Kabag TU) of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Center Septi Eka Wardhani.
“The number of people at Ranu Kumbolo was 178 people. Consisting of 137 climbers, 1 officer, 2 savers, 7 PPGST (Registered Mount Semeru Climbing Guides), 15 porters, 6 people from the Ministry of Tourism team,” said Septi when confirmed, Wednesday (19/11).
The latest information, said Septi, is that the 178 people are still at Ranu Kumbolo.Terrain conditions do not allow them to go down tonight.
“Last afternoon PPGST friends said that night evacuation is not recommended because the risks are the same, especially because it is dark, slippery, and several route locations are prone to landslides,” he said.
“For the time being, we ask those at Ranu Kumbolo to remain there in a ready position if at any time they have to go down at night to see the latest situation,” he said.
BB TNBTS Public Relations Officer Endrip Wahyutama said that Ranu Kumbolo’s condition was reported to be relatively safe from the impact of the Semeru eruption.
“For now, conditions at Ranu Kumbolo are relatively safe. Hot clouds have been observed moving in a southeast-south direction, while Ranu Kumbolo’s position is in the north,” said Endrip.
Because of this, he said, the climbers remained overnight at the location, considering that the journey back to Ranupani was quite risky because it was already evening and the weather in the area was rainy.
“We continue to coordinate with the guides from PPGST, and until now the condition of visitors is still safe and under control,” he said.
“Tomorrow morning, at 08.00 WIB, visitors will be encouraged to start traveling back from Ranu Kumbolo to Ranupani,” he added.
