Deputy Regent
Badung
, Bagus Alit Subuat, checked two flood locations, namely in the Krisnantara neighborhood, Tibubeneng Village, and Jalan Sri Kahyangan, Canggu Village, Bali, Sunday (14/12) afternoon.
One of these locations was the point where a foreign national (WNA) died after being allegedly dragged away

While inspecting the location, Bagus Aliat alias Gos Bota revealed the root of the problem that made Jalan Sri Kahyangan, Canggu, always flooded every time it rained heavily. It is suspected that the river’s flow has narrowed, which means that during heavy rain the water does not flow optimally to the beach.
“I have ordered immediate mitigation. It is suspected that there is a building being built on the edge of the river, which is causing the river to narrow,” said Gus Bota at the location, as quoted from
detikBali
.
He was accompanied by a number of stakeholders when inspecting the location, then instructed on alleged construction violations that had made the river flow narrow.
If it is proven to be a violation, he asks officers to follow up.Apart from that, he asked that mitigation in the form of normalizing river flows continue to be carried out.
“Yes, so that the flow of this river can be greater. In the future, apart from that, we will also carry out normalization. So that the flowing water really doesn’t become a flood,” he continued.
Apart from that, Gus Bota assessed that the environment where the foreigner was killed in the flood was dangerous because there was no bridge barrier and there was no visible distance between the water and the road itself.
“Yes, we have the PUPR Department to immediately handle this, we are upgrading the bridge barrier, so it can be even higher. When there is extreme flooding, high rainfall, the bridge barrier remains above the water level,” he stressed.
Legian-Seminyak floods
For your information, several areas that were quite badly affected by flooding at the end of last week include Legian Village, Seminyak in Kuta District and Kerobokan Kelod in North Kuta District.
The water overflowed onto the main road and into residential areas.
High rainfall makes the drainage system in several locations unable to accommodate water discharge, especially in areas affected by flooding in basin areas.
Several locations were reported to have experienced quite severe flooding, such as Jalan Sunset Road Seminyak, Jalan Dewi Sri Legian, Tibubeneng, Kerobokan, Dalung and surrounding areas, especially in densely built areas and tourism routes.
As previously reported, a foreign woman died being swept away by flood currents on Jalan Krisnantara, Tibubeneng Village, North Kuta, Badung, Bali. The body of a foreign woman whose identity is not yet known was found stuck in a culvert last Sunday.
PS Kasubsi Penmas Sihumas Badung Police, Aiptu Ni Nyoman Ayu Inastuti, revealed that it is suspected that the foreigner was swept away when heavy rain hit the Tibubeneng area in the early hours of Sunday morning. Before being swept away by the current, the victim was said to have driven through the flood while riding a motorbike.
“The victim, a foreigner whose identity is not yet known, was swept away by the flood currents while crossing Jalan Krisnantara, Tibubeneng Village, North Kuta, Badung,” said Inez in her statement, Sunday morning.
“The victim’s position was caught between the bridge wall and a wooden gap that was stuck under the bridge,” he added.
