General Chair of the Golkar Party
Bahlil Lahadalia
responded casually to the wave of rejection of the proposal of the 2nd President of the Republic of Indonesia
Suharto

Bahlil said that Suharto played a big role in development in Indonesia. He claimed that the 32 years of the New Order (Orba) regime under Suharto was an extraordinary achievement.
He also said that all parties must respect Suharto’s services to Indonesia.
“So we’re just normal. We can’t forget that what Pak Harto did for 32 years was something extraordinary,” he said.
Bahlil said that under Suharto’s leadership at that time, Indonesia was able to be saved from such a severe level of inflation.
Then, he continued, Suharto also contributed greatly to building food and energy self-sufficiency in Indonesia.
Apart from development during the New Order era, Suharto was also the founder of Golongan Karya – which later transformed into the Golkar Party.
Bahlil said that the birth of Golkar at that time also played a role in fighting the ideology of communism, which according to Bahlil wanted to seize power and replace the Pancasila ideology.
“If we want to talk about a perfect human being, perfection is only Allah SWT. Everything has pluses and minuses,” he said.
Previously it was reported that Suharto  was included in the list of 40 names proposed as national heroes to be designated this year.
The list of names has been officially submitted to the Minister of Culture and Chairman of the Council for Degrees, Service and Honors (GTK) Fadli Zon at the Ministry of Culture Office, Jakarta, Tuesday (21/10).
This proposal caused controversy among the community. One of them was from the Justice Soeharto Civil Society Movement (GEMAS) which stated that the proposal was a disappointing step.
“Today the Ministry of Social Affairs, through its minister, has also sent a name proposal which will be submitted to the Council for Degrees, Service Certificates and Honors. Of course, this is a disappointing step but also not surprising,” said KontraS Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya as a representative of the coalition when contacted, Tuesday (21/10).
Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) is optimistic that the name of the new National Hero can be officially announced before commemorating Heroes’ Day which falls on November 10 2025.
“Yes, hopefully, God willing, God willing, before November 10 and then several names will be chosen from those names,” he said in response to a reporter’s question after the 97th Youth Pledge Day commemoration ceremony at the Bank Indonesia Museum, Jakarta, Tuesday (28/10) as quoted from
