to determine whether mining activities contributed to flood and landslide disasters in three provinces on the island

, namely Aceh, West Sumatra (Sumbar) and North Sumatra (North Sumatra).
Bahlil admitted that the flood and landslide disasters in West Sumatra were not caused by mining activities.However, he is still checking whether mining contributed to the disaster in Aceh and North Sumatra.
“In West Sumatra, it doesn’t exist. In Aceh we are still checking. In North Sumatra, our evaluation team is still conducting an evaluation. Later, after the evaluation team, I will check whether the impact of this mine is there or not,” said Bahlil at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Thursday (4/12).

Bahlil emphasized that if it is proven that a mining company is violating the rules, his party will take firm action.
He also mentioned the gold mine in South Tapanuli, which was said to have temporarily stopped operations to focus on helping disaster victims.
“Yesterday it didn’t continue, because now yesterday I asked them to help focus on helping them with tools to help our brothers and sisters who were affected by the disaster,” added Bahlil.
Flash floods and landslides hit several areas on Sumatra Island.Based on BNPB data, the number of victims who died increased to 836 people as of Thursday (4/12) afternoon.
“I report that as of this afternoon the number of fatalities has increased to 836 people,” said Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari.
In detail, 325 people died in Aceh, 311 people in North Sumatra and 200 people in West Sumatra.Meanwhile, 170 missing victims were reported in Aceh, 127 in North Sumatra and 221 in West Sumatra.
