Bahlil’s Reason for Encouraging All Presidents to Get the Title of National Hero

The man who is currently Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources assesses that all previous presidents in Indonesia have provided great services to the country.
“If necessary, we recommend that all national figures who are former presidents be considered to be given the title of national hero,” said Bahlil at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Thursday (6/11).

He also hopes that Indonesian citizens will not look at the president’s mistakes in the past, and reject the proposal to give the former head of state cum head of government the title of national hero.
“How long will this nation continue to see the shortcomings of its figures? Look, bro, there are advantages,” he said.
Since independence in 1945, Indonesia has been led by eight presidents, including the current Prabowo Subianto.
Of the eight presidents, four have died, namely the first President of the Republic of Indonesia Sukarno, the second President of the Republic of Indonesia Soeharto, the third President of the Republic of Indonesia BJ Habibie, the fourth President of the Republic of Indonesia Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur).
Prabowo’s other three predecessors are currently still around, and also have ‘enormous power’ in Indonesian politics.For example, the fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, who is still the General Chair of the PDIP and the sixth President of the Republic of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who is known as the Chairman of the High Council of the Democratic Party.
Then the seventh President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi), his eldest son is currently the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Gibran Rakabuming Raka.Additionally, observers believe that Jokowi still has power in elite Indonesian politics.
Of all the former presidents, only Sukarno has been given the title of National Hero.After being named a hero of the proclamation in 1988, Sukarno was appointed a national hero in 2012.

Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf has proposed 40 names as national heroes.The list of names has been officially submitted to the Minister of Culture and Chairman of the Council for Degrees, Service and Honors (GTK) Fadli Zon at the Ministry of Culture Office, Jakarta, last Tuesday (21/10).
Some of them are Suharto, Gus Dur, and Marsinah, an activist and watch worker who died at the hands of authorities during the Marsinah New Order era.
Most recently, Fadli said that currently there are 49 names proposed for the title of national hero.
He detailed that 40 names were proposed by the Ministry of Social Affairs this year, while the other 9 were default or
carry over
from the previous year.
“There are 40 names of national hero candidates who are considered to have met the requirements and there are nine names that are innate,

, from the previous one.”So in total there are 49 names,” said Fadli at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Wednesday (5/11).
