Two bosses
BBC
England
resigned
following public criticism of bias at the media company, including editing the speech of the President of the United States (US)
Donald Trump
in documentaries.
Resigning are Director General Tim Davie and News Chief Executive Deborah Turness. Both resigned after widespread criticism of a documentary from their flagship program, Panorama, which edited Trump’s speech in a misleading way.
“This was entirely my decision, and I am extremely grateful to the Chairman and Board for their unwavering and complete support throughout my tenure, including over the last few days,” Davie said in a statement, quoted
AFP,
Monday (10/11).

“I have reflected on the very high personal and professional demands of managing this role over the years in these difficult times, coupled with the fact that I want to give my successors time to help plan the Charter they will implement,” he added.
Davie will remain in charge for the next few months while waiting for a replacement to be found.
In a critically criticized documentary, the BBC edited two parts of Trump’s speech so that he appeared to encourage the Capitol Hill riots in January 2021.
Trump’s old speech was edited and spliced to appear to tell his supporters, “we will march to the Capitol” and will “fight like hell,” a comment he made elsewhere in the speech.
In the unedited clip, Trump urges his supporters to walk with him, cheering on the brave senators, congressmen and women.
At the time, Trump was still contesting President Joe Biden’s election victory, in a vote he lost after his first term in office.
The edit was included in a documentary called “Trump: A Second Chance?”which was broadcast by the BBC a week before the US election last year.
The Daily Telegraph has been reporting for days on an internal document created by a former BBC standards adviser. The document lists a number of errors, including in the way Trump’s January 6, 2001 speech was edited.
Trump’s press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, described the BBC as a media with 100 percent fake news and a propaganda machine in an interview last Friday.
Recently, the BBC was criticized for failing to maintain political neutrality in its reporting, including in its coverage of Trump, the Israel-Hamas war and transgender issues.
