Head of the National Nutrition Agency (

MBG
) must be accompanied
nutritionist
.
Dadan reminded that the three main pillars that every MBG public kitchen must have are a SPPG head, nutritionist and accountant.
“The three main pillars of a nutritious eating program must be one ka-SPPG (head of SPPG), two nutritionists, three accountants. This is non-negotiable, SPPG cannot run without these three pillars,” explained Dadan in a press conference at the office of the Coordinating Ministry for Food, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (3/12).

According to Dadan, nutritionists in each SPPGĀ do not only have to be graduates with a bachelor’s degree in nutrition, but can be graduates with degrees in Public Health, Food Technology, Food Processing and Food Safety.
“So far, only nutritionists have always had a bachelor’s degree in nutrition. So, now you can have a degree in public health, you can have a degree in food technology, you can have a degree in food processing, you can have a degree in food safety,” he explained.
Then, he also denied the statement by the Indonesian Nutritionists Association (Persagi) which said that nutritionists were not rare.
Dadan said that the reality on the ground is that SPPGs are competing for nutritionists who have a bachelor’s degree in nutrition, thus opening up the option of graduates from other study programs.
“In reality, there has been a fight over the field, between SPPGs fighting over nutritionists who have a degree in nutrition. That’s why we then opened it up to other study programs so that there wouldn’t be a fight over it,” concluded Dadan.
In contrast to Dadan, Persagi General Chair Doddy Izwardy said the number of nutritionists in Indonesia was sufficient to meet the needs of the MBG program’s public kitchens.
“No (it’s rare). So it’s like this, their education (nutrition experts) produce up to 11 thousand a year. We just don’t know where they are,” said Doddy at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Food, Central Jakarta, last Wednesday (19/11).
He believes that complaints from some SPPGs about difficulties in getting nutritionists are more due to distribution and assignment mechanisms, rather than a national shortage of staff.
He added that the Ministry of Health has carried out mapping of nutrition workers, including those who are still serving voluntarily. However, the process of moving them to SPPG still requires a regional government decision.
“Whether they can move to SPPG, there must be regulations from the regent, governor, something like that,” he said.
In mapping national needs, Doddy said that the availability of nutrition experts was sufficient to support all SPPGs in Indonesia.
“Enough, all of Indonesia. We will help with that,” he said.
