Rupiah redenomination
or better known as the policy of changing IDR 1,000 to IDR 1.
Head of the BI Communications Department, Ramdan Denny Prakoso, said that rupiah redenomination is simplifying the number of digits in the fraction (denomination) without reducing the purchasing power and value of the rupiah relative to the price of goods and/or services.
“This is a strategic step to increase transaction efficiency, strengthen the credibility of the rupiah, and support the modernization of the national payment system,” said Ramdan in a written statement, Monday (10/11).

The redenomination process, he continued, was carefully planned and involved close coordination with all stakeholders.Currently, the Redenomination Bill has been included in the 2025-2029 Medium Term National Legislation Program (Prolegnas), as a government initiative bill based on BI’s proposal.
Furthermore, BI together with the government and the DPR will continue to discuss the redenomination process.
Ramdan guarantees that the implementation of redenomination will still take into account the right time, taking into account political, economic, social stability and technical readiness including legal, logistics and information technology.
“Bank Indonesia will remain focused on maintaining the stability of the value of the rupiah and supporting economic growth during the redenomination process,” he said.
Purbaya plans to include the rupiah redenomination plan in Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) Number 70 of 2025 concerning the Strategic Plan of the Ministry of Finance for 2025-2029.
Purbaya’s reason for redenominating the rupiah is economic efficiency.
He also made the redenomination of the rupiah a strategy to maintain the continuity of national economic development, a stable value of the rupiah as a form of maintaining people’s purchasing power, and increasing the credibility of the rupiah.
Purbaya assigned the Directorate General of Treasury (DJPb) of the Ministry of Finance to be responsible for the redenomination of the rupiah.
