) RI revealed that around 50 people in Indonesia die every day due to consumption
drugs
or reaching 18 thousand people per year, with the age range of victims dominated by the young group of 14 to 25 years.
BNN Deputy Prevention Inspector General Muhammad Zainul Muttaqin said that currently there are 1,386 new types of drugs in the world.The majority have been identified as circulating in the country.
“Of this number, 94 types have been regulated in the Regulation of the Minister of Health,” said Zainul in an Open Discussion on the Dangers of Drugs in Jakarta, Tuesday (4/11) quoted

Zainul added that vape fluid has now also been identified as containing the narcotic type etomidate, an anesthetic compound which in Taiwan is categorized as a class 1 narcotic.
On the other hand, as many as 52.97 percent of prison inmates were recorded as convicts with narcotics cases.
Zainul explained that there are general characteristics of people exposed to drugs with the term ‘7 ong plus’, namely lying, nyolong, nodong, songong, toothless, bengong, and rempong.
To strengthen prevention efforts, BNN launched the IKAN (Anti-Drug Curriculum Integration) program so that anti-drug education is included in the learning system from an early age.
Zainul said that drugs have become a serious threat to the world, with the death rate due to drug abuse globally reaching 585 thousand people per year or an average of 52 people dying every hour.
“The death toll from drugs in the world is even greater than that from armed conflict and terrorism,” he said.
Meanwhile, Expert Advisor to the National Police Chief Andi Subiakto added that if drug trafficking is not dealt with seriously, the goal of achieving a Golden Generation in 2045 will fail, so that the demographic bonus could turn into a demographic disaster.
He also highlighted the existence of drug detention centers which are actually centers of drug production and distribution in the country.
“The danger of narcotics is no longer just a criminal issue, but has become a geopolitical and geodemographic threat,” said Andi.

Based on the Indonesia Drug Report 2025, the number of convicts and detainees for drug cases reached 141,016 people.Of that number, 76,712 are dealers, distributors, distributors and producers, while another 64,304 are users.
North Sumatra Province was recorded as having the highest number of prisoners for drug cases in 2024 with 19,378 people, including 10,952 dealers and dealers.East Java followed in second place with 13,917 people, followed by West Java 10,989 people, Riau 8,767 people, and DKI Jakarta 8,533 people.
East Kalimantan is in sixth place with 7,979 people, followed by South Sumatra 7,593 people, South Sulawesi 6,823 people, South Kalimantan 6,766 people, and Central Java 6,106 people.
