National Disaster Management Agency (
BNPB
) reported that the number of victims who died due to floods and landslides that occurred in three provinces of Sumatra, namely Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra increased to 964 people as of 17.00, Tuesday (9/12).
This was conveyed by the Head of the BNPB Data and Information Center, Abdul Muhari, in a press conference broadcast on BNPB YouTube.Previously, the number of victims who died as a result of the Sumatra disaster was reported to be 961 people on Monday (8/12).
“For general conditions, we would like to convey that the results of today’s search and rescue efforts have resulted in additional bodies being found from a total of 961 victims who died on Monday, December 8 2025. Today the increase is three, so this data continues to be updated, updated from every district, city in three provinces,” said Muhari in a press conference on YouTube BNPB.

Muhari also reported a decrease in the number of refugees from 1,057,482 people to 894,101 people based on today’s provincial recapitulation.
“Similarly, for refugees, the number of refugees recorded yesterday was 1,057,482 people. Today it was recorded in the provincial recapitulation as 894,101 people,” he said.
He also conveyed that the decrease in the number of refugees in today’s data occurred in North Aceh Regency, which today decreased to 166,920 people after previously reporting the number of refugees as many as 316,634 people on Sunday (7/12) and 299,506 people on Monday (8/12).
“We are saying that the decrease in the number of refugees in today’s data occurred in North Aceh Regency. So the data reported by the Regional Task Force which is a joint team from the regional government, BPBD, and also representatives from the national team, in North Aceh on December 7, the number of refugees was recorded at 316,634 people. Then the next day, December 8, it decreased to 299,506 people. Today from 299,000 it has decreased again to 166,900, repeat,166,920 people,” he explained.
Furthermore, quoting from the official website of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), it was reported that 262 people were still missing and 5,000 people were injured today.
Several facilities were damaged as a result of the disaster, including 1.2 thousand public facilities, 215 health facilities, 584 educational facilities, 423 places of worship, 287 buildings/offices and 498 bridges.
