Yusuf (42), a fisherman from Lautaka Hamlet, Merdeka Village, Banda Island District, Central Maluku Regency, Maluku Province was reported adrift in the waters of the Banda Sea, Saturday (13/12).
He had asked for help via a live broadcast (Live Facebook) which was uploaded via his personal account on Facebook.

In the video, Yusuf shows the condition of the sea with high waves, strong winds and the sky which is starting to darken due to being covered by thick black clouds.
He hopes that residents who see the post will immediately notify Basarnas and their families to immediately send help because they are worried about the increasingly dark sea conditions and waves.
Currently, he said the boat is temporarily drifting around Dikor Island or about ten kilometers from the fishermen’s group.For this reason, he then asked the Sar team or family who were looking for him to go directly to Dikor Island.
He hopes that help will come as quickly as possible because he is worried about the weather starting at night, the waves are getting higher, the signal is starting to slowly disappear and what’s more, cellphone batteries are starting to run out.

Head of Basarnas Ambon Muhamad Arafah said that a joint Sar team was deployed to the location at 13:25 WIT.They consisted of the Banda SAR Post, Banda Koramil, and the community who were deployed to the location of the incident.
After an hour of searching amidst bad weather, the victim was found by the joint SAR team at around 14.40 WIT in a safe condition at coordinates at a distance of ± 5.76 Nautical Mile from the initial incident location.The victim was then evacuated to Lautaka Hamlet and handed over to his family.
Initially, he said Yusuf went to sea on Saturday (13/12) early in the morning or at 3 am.After fishing, the victim decided to go home but on the way the boat was hit by high waves and the engine was damaged due to water taking in.
The victim tried to repair the damage to the engine but the repair efforts were unsuccessful and ended up being washed away.
“From the information we received, Mr. Yusuf, whose address is Merdeka Village, Lautaka Hamlet, Banda District, left by longboat to go to sea at around 3 in the morning around the Banda Sea. Due to the bad weather, the longboat engine took on water and was damaged,” he concluded.
