Central Statistics Agency (
BPS
) reveals a number of impacts of
disaster
which occurred on the island of Sumatra, namely Aceh, West Sumatra (Sumbar), to North Sumatra (North Sumatra).
BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, Pudji Ismartini, said that one of the real impacts is the potential for crop failure.
“The risk or potential for crop failure is likely to increase towards the end of 2025, including in November and December, which have greater risks due to extreme weather, such as floods,” he said in a press conference at the BPS office, Central Jakarta, Monday (1/12).

“Then, disasters in several regions, as we know in Sumatra, are in Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra and other regions. And of course this also has an impact on agricultural land, especially rice fields and rice plantings,” continued Pudji.
Pudji said that BPS is currently extending field observations regarding the Area Sample Frame (KSA) in the three areas affected by the disaster.
He said the potential extent of crop failure in November 2025 would only be announced in January 2026.
On the other hand, he highlighted how BPS had difficulty collecting data in the field regarding the condition of the consumer price index (CPI).This follows data that Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra actually experienced monthly deflation.
Aceh recorded deflation of 0.67 percent
month to month
(mtm) in November 2025, aka the deepest this month.Followed by North Sumatra which recorded deflation of 0.42 percent and West Sumatra deflation of 0.24 percent.
Meanwhile, Indonesia recorded inflation of 0.17 percent monthly.Inflation also occurs annually, aka year on year (yoy) at 2.72 percent and 2.27 percent year to date (ytd) or calendar year.
“The current disaster in 3 regions occurred in the middle of the fourth week of November (2025). From BPS’s current monitoring, the conditions resulted in infrastructure problems, so that the market where the CPI survey was carried out was also affected by a disaster, as is happening in Sibolga currently, so market data is still being collected,” said Pudji.
Seeing this, Pudji estimates that the impact of the Sumatran natural disaster will only be recorded in the data release next month.
“So, not this month (we will see the impact of the disaster), next month we will see the impact,” he said.
