Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva expressed his hope that there would be no land invasion

to Venezuela.He also reiterated his readiness to become a mediator between the two countries which are currently at odds.
Lula’s remarks came amid rising tensions after US President Donald Trump launched a major military operation in the Caribbean region under the pretext of eradicating drugs, which has killed dozens of people.
Trump accused Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro of leading a drug cartel network, while Maduro said Washington’s move was simply an attempt to “overthrow the regime” in Caracas and seize his country’s oil resources.

“I don’t want us to get to the point where the US carries out a ground invasion of Venezuela,” Lula told a number of international news agencies, citing

.
“I have told President Trump, political problems cannot be solved with weapons, but with dialogue,” he added.
The 80-year-old leader, who is currently in the city of Belem to chair the COP30 climate summit on Thursday and Friday, said the United States should help countries fight drug trafficking “instead of shooting at them.”
Lula also said that this issue would be one of the main topics at the summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) which was scheduled to take place on November 9-10 in the city of Santa Marta, Colombia.
