British Deputy Ambassador Matthew Downing said his government would consider if the Indonesian government asked for the repatriation of Indonesian citizens

Downing expressed this when asked by media crew regarding reciprocity after Indonesia repatriated two British convicts who were detained in the country, Lindsay June Sandiford (68) and Shahab Shahabadi (35).

“This is a reciprocal agreement, which means that Indonesia can submit a request to repatriate Indonesian citizens detained in the UK, and the British government has committed to considering every request that comes in,” said Downing during a press conference at the Kerobokan Class IIA Prison, in Badung Regency, Bali, on Thursday (6/11) evening.
He also mentioned that so far the Indonesian government has not requested the repatriation of convict Reynhard.Reynhard is convicted of rape with a life sentence and is currently being held at HMP Wakefield, England.
“And so far, there has been no request from Indonesia regarding any Indonesian citizen prisoners being held in England,” he said.
Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra previously said there had been no discussion of Reynhard’s repatriation with the British government.
“There has not been any decision from the Indonesian government to ask Indonesian citizens who are in England to be returned to Indonesia. So until today there has been no decision,” said Yusril in Jakarta, Tuesday (21/10).
