Around 425 people were arrested at
London
on Saturday (6/9) in a protest action supporting the group
Palestine Action
, which is prohibited based on the British Terrorism Law.
Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in front of the British Parliament Building while carrying a poster that read, “I reject genocide. I support Palestine Action.”
London Metropolitan Police (MET) had previously warned that they would not hesitate to hold anyone who openly expressed support for the prohibited group, quoting

“We are not terrorists. This prohibition must be revoked,” said Polly Smith (74), a retired, told

Nigel, a 62 -year -old CEO, said that the government’s decision in July to prohibit the group was “very wrong.”Before being arrested, he said, “They should be more focused on stopping genocide, not stopping demonstrators.”
Tensions increased when a number of demonstrators tried to prevent the police to make arrests.The police mentioned several violations that occurred including “attacks on officers.”
Palestine Action is prohibited under the 2000 Terrorism Law after carrying out acts of vandalism, including at a Royal Air Force Base (RAF) which caused a loss of around £ 7 million or equivalent to US $ 10 million or around Rp150 billion.
The prohibition then reaped criticism from various parties, including the United Nations, Amnesty International, and Greenpeace, who considered the decision to excessively excessively and threaten freedom of opinion.
Before the action on Saturday, more than 800 people were arrested, with 138 people charged with supporting or encouraging support for prohibited organizations.If proven guilty, most are threatened with a sentence of six months in prison, while the organizer can face a sentence of up to 14 years.
The British government also received permission to file an appeal on the previous decision that allows one of the founders of Palestine Action, Huda Ammori, challenged the ban.
Other pro-Palestinian demonstrations were also held separately in London on the same day, with thousands of people taking to the streets.The action took place in conjunction with Israel’s new attack in Gaza which aims to seize the city of Gaza from the Hamas group.
