Before the incident at Bondi Beach, Australia was also in turmoil after the shooting in the city of Port Arthur, Tasmania, in 1996. As a result of that incident, 35 people died.

, also noted that the number of firearms today is greater than before the 1996 incident.
In their records, the number of firearms in Australia in 2017 was 3.6 million. This number is higher than before the Port Arthur incident which was only 3.2 million.
Australia Institute researcher Bill Browne also said the number of hunters, sport shooters and licensed gun owners had fallen in the last 20 years, but the number of firearms had increased.
This means that weapons permit holders can buy/possess more weapons than usual.
“Australians will be shocked to learn that Australia now has more firearms than before the Port Arthur massacre and the introduction of strict firearms controls,” Browne said.
