“Because of that, the President is offering something new which is called constitutional politics, which is called constitutional economics. Returning to the role of the state and government within, it is present so that the most marginalized people in Indonesia do not continue to be victims of forced competition,” he added.
So, what is constitutional economics?
A constitutional economy is an economic system that is run based on the constitution or supreme law of a country.In the Indonesian context, the national constitution is the 1945 Constitution.
According to Cak Imin, the implementation of the economic constitution will restore the state’s function of prioritizing the interests of the people, not the interests of groups or entrepreneurs.
“So Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution continues to be a direction for the state to really use its roles and functions, to be truly in the interests of the people, not the interests of businessmen,” said Cak Imin to journalists after the event.
Apart from that, constitutional economics will also ensure that the government takes the side of the little people.
“Laws are not in the interests of individual individuals, because for example, this law has so far only sided with one region, one group. So, with constitutional economics, the government must side with the smallest people,” he explained.
