Both problems stem from a long-standing dispute over the demarcation of the 800-kilometer (500-mile) colonial-era border.
“On December 13, 2025, the Thai military used two F-16 fighter jets to drop seven bombs” on a number of targets, Cambodia’s Defense Ministry said in a post on X.
“Thai military planes have not stopped bombing,” he said as reported by AFP, Saturday (13/12).

This came after Trump said on Friday (12/12) Thailand and Cambodia had agreed to stop fighting along the disputed border, which has killed at least 20 people this week.
“This morning I had a very good conversation with the Prime Minister of Thailand, Anutin Charnvirakul, and the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Manet, regarding the return of the long-standing war between them,” Trump said on his Truth Social platform.
“They have agreed to STOP all shooting starting tonight, and return to the original Peace Agreement made with me, and them, with the help of the great Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar Ibrahim,” he said, referring to the deal made in July 2025.
“Both countries are ready for PEACE and sustainable trade with the United States,” Trump said, thanking Anwar for his help.
Anutin previously said “it is necessary to announce to the world that Cambodia will adhere to the ceasefire” after his conversation with Trump.
“The party that violated the agreement needs to improve (the situation), not the party that violated it,” Anutin said, adding that conversations with Trump went well.
The United States, China and Malaysia, as chairs of the ASEAN regional bloc, brokered a ceasefire in July 2025 after an initial five-day wave of violence.
In October 2025, Trump supported a follow-up joint declaration between Thailand and Cambodia, touting a new trade deal after they agreed to extend their ceasefire.
However, Thailand suspended the agreement the following month after their soldiers were injured by landmines on the border.
“Cambodia has always adhered to peaceful means for resolving disputes,” Hun Manet said in a Facebook post on Saturday after his conversation with Trump.
It added that it had suggested the US and Malaysia could use their information gathering capabilities “to verify which side first opened fire” on December 7.
Anutin said there was “no sign” Trump would link further trade talks to the border conflict, but he had guaranteed Thailand would get “better benefits than other countries”.
Anutin also dissolved Thailand’s parliament on Friday (12/12) after three months in office, paving the way for general elections early next year.
