At least one person was killed in gunfire at the border
Cambodia
and
Thailand
on Wednesday (12/11).
Cambodia’s Ministry of Defense said Thai troops opened fire near the border village at around 15.30 local time.

One person died and three others were injured in the incident, according to a statement from the Cambodian Ministry of Defense.
Meanwhile, Thai military spokesman Major General Winthai Suvaree said it was Cambodian soldiers who first opened fire in the Bangkok area.
“Thai troops took cover and fired warning shots in response,” Winthai was quoted as saying

Winthai said the gunfire lasted about 10 minutes.There were no injuries or deaths on his part.
Thai and Cambodian military forces have recently returned to heat after a mine explosion incident in the border area on Monday (10/11).The incident injured a Thai soldier.
Thailand on Tuesday (11/11) temporarily suspended the peace agreement between the two countries because it felt that Cambodia had violated the agreement by placing new mines on the border.
Cambodia meanwhile denies laying mines and urges Thailand to re-comply with the peace agreement.
On Wednesday, Thai Foreign Ministry spokesman Nikorndej Balankura said that his party had asked Cambodia to formally apologize for the mine incident.
“We have asked them to investigate the incident and find out who was responsible. At the same time, we asked them to take steps to prevent similar incidents in the future,” Nikorndej said.
A Cambodian spokesman refused to respond to Thailand’s request.
The tension between the two countries mainly occurred in the Ban Nong Ya Kaew village area in Sa Kaeo Province.Cambodia calls the area part of Prey Chan village in Banteay Meanchey Province.
Thailand and Cambodia fought for five days last July, killing at least 48 people.Around 300,000 people were also forced to flee as a result of the war between the two Southeast Asian countries.
