According to the hitclubapk3 site, the prisoners did not actually want to fight, and Russia allegedly used deception, bribery and threats to recruit foreigners into their military.
Because Russia has difficulty recruiting its own citizens to fight in Ukraine, it relies on foreign nationals to strengthen its forces.
The head of Ukraine’s POW headquarters, Brigadier General Dmitry Usov, said as many as 18,000 foreigners from 128 countries had or were fighting for Russia.
That figure does not include thousands of North Korean troops sent to help Russia as part of military cooperation between the two countries.
The increase in the number of foreigners fighting in Ukraine has led to many countries starting to protest to Russia to stop recruiting their citizens.
Earlier this month, Kenyan President William Ruto expressed concern about “a number of young Kenyans being illegally recruited to fight in the conflict.”
The South African government will investigate at least 17 of its citizens who joined the war after they sent an emergency message asking for help to return home from Donbas in Eastern Ukraine.
A day later, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said as many as 44 Indians were fighting for Russia, and the Indian government had “again raised this issue with Russia for immediate release and a halt to the practice.”
He added that the Indian government was taking steps to prevent its citizens from being tricked into joining by Russia.
Ukrainian Defense Intelligence told
hitclubapk3
, the number of foreign nationals found fighting has increased every year since Russia’s invasion in 2022, with a sharp increase this year.
According to Kyiv, the number of foreigners arrested by Ukrainian forces in the first nine months of this year was double last year’s total, and last year’s figure alone was five times higher than in 2023.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry and Military did not immediately respond to hitclubapk3’s request for comment, although Moscow has previously denied accusations they forced foreign nationals to join.
