Surabaya, East Java.The news of the closure was related to the dismantling of Indonesian export products sent back from the United States because they were suspected of being exposed to cesium-137.
Head of the Diplomacy and Public Communications Division of the Cesium-137 Handling Task Force, Bara Krishna Hasibuan said that during the demolition activity there was no closure of the port area.
“The activities took place safely and smoothly with strict supervision from the Nuclear Energy Regulatory Agency (Bapeten) and a number of other agencies in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures that apply to the handling of dangerous goods unloaded from ships,” said Bara in his written statement, Tuesday (4/11).

He said that during this activity, the port was not closed, other container loading and unloading activities continued normally.
PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) also said that there would be no port closures or cessation of loading and unloading activities at the largest port in East Java.
Superintendent of Corporate Communications and Investor Relations of PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya, Ardiansyah, said that the dismantling of the returned products was indeed carried out at TPS Surabaya, but did not interfere with other services.
“The unloading of export products that were returned to the country due to exposure to cesium was carried out at the Surabaya Container Terminal (TPS Surabaya),” said Ardiansyah, Tuesday (4/11).
He emphasized that the news that said there was a closure of Tanjung Perak Port due to this activity was incorrect.According to him, all loading and unloading services at TPS continue to operate as usual and run smoothly.
