Wang Yi strongly criticized Japan after Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi issued a statement that Beijing deemed a “false and surprising signal” regarding
Taiwan
.The criticism was conveyed in an official statement from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, adding to the heat of tensions that have lasted for more than two weeks.
Quoting Reuters, Wang said Japan had “crossed a red line that should not be touched”.He accused Takaichi of trying to intervene militarily in Taiwan’s affairs, referring to his comments on November 7.

At that time, Takaichi said a possible Chinese attack on Taiwan could trigger a military response from Tokyo.
The statement sparked one of the biggest crises in Beijing-Tokyo relations in recent years. The dispute has now spread to the trade sector to cultural relations. In fact, China brought the issue to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on Friday, while emphasizing its determination to defend itself.
Beijing considers Taiwan to be part of its territory and has not ruled out using military force to take over the island. However, the Taiwanese government rejected these claims and emphasized that the future of the island must be determined by the Taiwanese people themselves.
Japan’s Foreign Ministry has not commented on Wang’s remarks. But on Saturday, Tokyo responded to China’s letter to the UN by calling Beijing’s claims “completely unacceptable” and reaffirming Japan’s commitment to peace.
Taiwan also strongly criticized Beijing’s steps. In a statement on Sunday, Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry said China’s letter to the UN contained “crude and unreasonable content” and “maliciously distorted historical facts”.
Taiwan added that Beijing’s actions violated Article 2(4) of the UN Charter which prohibits the threat or use of force in international relations.
Wang warned that China “must retaliate firmly” not only for the sake of its sovereignty and territorial integrity, but also to maintain “post-war achievements achieved with blood and sacrifice.”
He even asserted that if Japan persists in this attitude, other countries “have the right to review Japan’s historical crimes” and prevent a resurgence of Japanese militarism.
