The speaker spoke after Japan announced it would deploy missiles on Yonaguni Island near Taiwan.Japanese Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi on Sunday (23/11) said the government would place missiles south of Yonaguni, which is only about 110 kilometers from Taiwan.
Peng said deploying weapons in areas close to Taiwan was a truly dangerous decision. He considered that this could trigger tensions and provoke military action.
“Japan’s deployment of offensive weapons in areas close to Taiwan is truly dangerous, as it blatantly creates regional tensions and provokes military confrontation,” Peng said.
Koizumi meanwhile has stated that the deployment of missiles to the Yonaguni area was purely an attempt at self-protection.He stated that the view that this would increase tensions was completely inaccurate.
Relations between China and Japan have been hot recently. This is the aftermath of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s statement to parliament on November 7 that Japan could get involved militarily if China launched an attack on Taiwan.
China was furious because it felt that Japan had provoked and crossed the line.Beijing asked Takaichi to withdraw these remarks, but Takaichi refused.
China finally banned its citizens from traveling to Japan and stopped marine products and anime broadcasts.China also officially complained about this to the UN.
China has always viewed Taiwan as part of its territory.Meanwhile, Taiwan, which already has its own government, wants independence from Beijing.
China has always considered the Taiwan issue as a non-negotiable red line.Beijing intends to reunite Taiwan with military force if necessary.
