The City Government (Pemkot) of Medan, North Sumatra, has declared response status
disaster emergency
nature in Medan for 15 days starting November 27 after extreme weather caused flooding.
This status is determined in the Decree of the Mayor of Medan Number 188.44/15.K concerning Determination of the Emergency Response Status for Natural Disasters in the City of Medan in 2025.

This status determination was made because a flood hit Medan on November 27, causing disruption to people’s lives, transportation, material losses and an impact on social, economic and community welfare aspects in Medan City.
Not only that, the Medan City Government is also considering the explanation from the North Sumatra Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to be aware of potential hydrometeorological disasters due to extreme weather on November 22-27 in North Sumatra.
This determination was also based on the results of the disaster response coordination meeting on November 27 which was attended by elements of the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkompimda) and related regional apparatus.
Medan Mayor Rico Tri Putra Waas previously explained that he had ordered all his staff, including sub-district heads and village heads, to optimize disaster management to ensure community safety.

The Disaster Management Operations Control Center (Pusdalops PB) Medan City, North Sumatra noted that at least 11 sub-districts were hit by floods that occurred in Medan City.
The 11 sub-districts that were hit by flooding were Medan Johor District, Medan Selayang District, Medan Maimun District, Medan Baru District, Medan Sungal District and Medan Polonia District.
Apart from that, Medan Petisah District, Medan Helvetia District, Medan Baru District, Medan Labuhan District and Medan Marelan District.
As a result of this unfortunate incident, 645 people were evacuated from the floods spread across 28 sub-districts and 128 neighborhoods.
