“This is the reality of sponsorship. For FAM, they can’t let it go any longer,” said Yeoh at the Unity Cup event on Friday (28/11), as reported by
New Straits Times
.
So that this does not happen, in the sense that FAM is left behind by business corporations that generously provide support, the Malaysian government is pushing for major changes within FAM.
According to Yeoh, the results of the Independent Committee’s investigation will be decisive. This committee contains four prominent Malaysian figures. This team is said to be completing the report.
“We are waiting for the report of Raus Sharif [Chairman of the Independent Committee]. These findings will also be presented to the Cabinet [of Malaysia’s DPR members] for scrutiny.”
“All these players [forged documents of seven naturalized Malaysian players] are still in the FAM ecosystem. That’s why we can’t ignore FAM,” said Yeoh.
FAM’s threat to be abandoned by sponsors is in line with the Malaysian government’s move to freeze aid funds to FAM.These funds will be frozen if there is no transparency.
“Now they must discuss governance and show how they intend to improve governance to regain sponsors’ trust,” he said.
