Humbang Hasundutan Police Chief, AKBP Arthur Sameaputty, said that rockslides from the hill walls in the PLTA area had occurred since Wednesday (3/12. Landslides were recorded as having occurred 10 times, with the landslide point being between the PLTA Dam and the Power House (PH).

“As a result of this incident, landslide material covered the river flow coming out of the dam, thereby holding back the water flow and forming a canal or small lake with a depth of approximately 50 meters,” said Arthur, Thursday (4/12).
Arthur explained that the river flow from the Pakkat Hydroelectric Dam passes through Purba Bersatu Village, Pakkat District, then flows towards Andam Dewi District, Central Tapanuli Regency, including the Bonan Dolok Forest River, Sijukkang, and the Husor Bridge.
“We, together with the Regent of Humbahas, went directly to the location to conduct a survey and confirm the current conditions in the field to determine handling and mitigation steps that must be taken immediately for the safety of the community,” he said.
The Humbahas Regency Government has also coordinated with the Central Tapanuli Regency Government (Tapteng) regarding the situation in the PLTA area.
The Tapteng Regency Government was asked to give an appeal to residents in Andam Dewi District and Barus District to evacuate temporarily to their family homes or safe places far from river flows.
“We urge the public not to carry out any activities along the river flow for the time being. The landslide material that is blocking the river flow has the potential to break at any time,” said Arthur.
“If that happens, the water will overflow quickly and could pose a danger to people carrying out activities along the riverbanks. We ask people to stay away from the river area until conditions are truly safe,” he added.
