Rescues were carried out for around 50 passengers

Tui was on a tour after a catamaran capsized in the waters of the Dominican Republic.
Passengers from the Tui cruise ship, Mein Schiff 1, rushed to nearby ships in Samana Bay after the catamaran ship named Boca de Yuma sank on Sunday (9/11).
A number of passengers were also reported to have jumped into the sea immediately after learning that the ship they were on could not be saved following the incident.

The 40-foot (around 12 meter) long ship reportedly suffered damage to its hull after colliding with an object in the water.
Dominican Republic Navy forces received a distress call from the ship and immediately responded to the scene.
“The Captain of the Port of Samana reported that they are investigating the cause of the incident,” the Navy said in a statement, as reported

“The Dominican Republic Navy is working with local authorities to determine responsibility and take immediate preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future,” he added.
A Tui Cruises spokesperson confirmed there were around 50 guests from Mein Schiff 1 on board the catamaran at the time of the incident.
After colliding with an object in the water, the ship’s captain immediately contacted other ships in the area and asked for help.
Tui Cruises added that all guests were safe and immediately returned to the Mein Schiff 1 after being rescued.They thanked the crew involved for their assistance.

“The affected guests were immediately offered assistance and compensation. All of them decided to continue their trip,” the spokesperson said.”We continue to investigate this incident together with the tour provider and relevant authorities. The safety and well-being of our guests is our top priority.”
The incident occurred just days after the Mein Schiff 1’s 14-day round-trip Central America cruise started from La Romana, Dominican Republic, on November 7.
After sailing to Jamaica, Mexico, Belize, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama and Colombia, the cruise ship is scheduled to dock again in La Romana on November 21, 2025.
