He said that in general supplies in the areas around the disaster were still available, but the distribution of aid to the affected areas was not yet completely smooth due to damaged road access.
“In the disaster area, it is indeed a disaster that is specifically handled with all kinds of assistance. But in the surrounding areas, meaning in areas where there is no disaster, North Sumatra also said that supplies are available, supplies are under control. Only if people want to get help, the infrastructure is still having problems,” said Budi at the Ministry of Trade, Central Jakarta, Monday (8/12).

He explained that current distribution disruptions are mostly caused by disruption of logistics routes to disaster areas.
Meanwhile, for areas not directly affected, supplies of basic commodities are available and can still be distributed as usual.
The government, he said, also anticipates that obstacles in one region will not trigger shortages in other regions.
Regarding the stabilization of food prices in Sumatra, Budi said that the availability of goods from the producer side was actually in safe condition. The government also ensures that distribution from producers to markets is maintained so that it is not hampered.
“It was conveyed earlier, in principle because from the association, all the goods are available from the producers. Then the distribution is also guaranteed to be smooth,” he said.
For areas truly affected by disasters, the distribution pattern is different because they rely on sending humanitarian aid.
Currently, continued Budi, the government’s main focus is ensuring that aid can reach locations where road access is still disrupted due to floods and landslides.
“The nature of the disaster is aid. Now it is being laid out like a route from North Sumatra to the location. The important thing is now to focus on aid. If outside the disaster location it has been anticipated, the supply is actually sufficient, there are no problems,” said Budi.
Flash floods and landslides in Sumatra also had a significant impact on the prices of basic commodities, especially chilies.
In Banda Aceh, the price of red chilies had jumped to Rp. 250 thousand-Rp. 300 thousand per kilogram, from the normal price of around Rp. 50 thousand-Rp. 60 thousand per kg.
The price spike was triggered by the disruption of distribution channels in the eastern coastal region of Aceh, which is the main route for basic food supplies from North Sumatra.
Apart from chilies, the price of chicken eggs has also increased to around IDR 70 thousand per board, from the normal price of IDR 50 thousand per board.A number of other commodities such as onions and 3 kg subsidized gas are starting to become scarce on the market due to supply constraints.
A trader at the Al Mahirah Market in Banda Aceh, Rahmat, said that the basic necessities sold by traders are currently in last stock. For several days, supplies from outside the area could not enter because distribution lines were cut off in the Bireuen and Aceh Tamiang areas.
In the period 1-8 December 2025, the price of curly red chilies in several provinces was recorded to be far above the reference price. In North Sumatra, the average price reached IDR 67,526 per kg, West Sumatra IDR 79,655 per kg, and Aceh IDR 84,194 per kg.
Meanwhile, the price of large red chilies in South Sumatra is around IDR 58,846 per kg, North Maluku IDR 59,737 per kg, West Sumatra IDR 60,137 per kg, and East Kalimantan IDR 60,751 per kg.
The latest data from BNPB as of Monday (8/12) at 09.30 WIB, the total number of victims who died due to floods and landslides in Sumatra has reached 929 people.A total of 274 people are still declared missing, while the injured number reaches around 5,000 people.
This disaster also caused damage to more than 155 thousand houses and affected 52 districts in the provinces of Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra. In Aceh itself, the death toll was recorded at 366 people, with the highest number in North Aceh Regency at 128 people, followed by East Aceh 57 people.
