“The total investment plan is approximately IDR 329 trillion, and the total reaches IDR 371 trillion for the agriculture, food, livestock, horticulture and plantation sectors,” said Amran at a press conference at the Ministry of Agriculture, South Jakarta, Friday (7/11).
He explained that the downstream project would focus on superior commodities such as coconut, cocoa, cashew, palm oil, as well as the development of integrated broiler and egg farming.
The government has also prepared a special budget of IDR 20 trillion to ensure the availability of national chicken and egg supplies so that there is no shortage in the future, especially to supply the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program.
Amran added that downstreaming is considered to be able to provide significant added value to commodity exports, especially coconut, which is currently one of Indonesia’s main exports.
According to him, the potential value of coconut exports could increase tens of times once the downstream industry is fully operational. He gave the example of the price of coconuts in North Maluku, which was originally IDR 600 per seed, but has now increased to IDR 3,500 per seed after the downstream program started.
Apart from that, the government is also targeting white sugar self-sufficiency next year and crystal sugar self-sufficiency in the next three to four years.
“We want to restore the glory of sugar to the Dutch colonial era in 1930, when Indonesia was the world’s number two sugar exporter and producer,” he said.
