DKI Prioritizes TPU Provision in the City Before Going to Neighbors

prioritizing the provision of burial plots within the city before collaborating with buffer areas or neighboring districts/cities to prepare additional public burial sites (TPU) options.
“The most important thing is to prepare inside (the city) first. Because this is for long-term interests,” said DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung when met in the Jagakarsa area, South Jakarta, Tuesday (9/12).

Nevertheless, Pramono still asked the DKI Jakarta Provincial Parks and City Forest Service to prepare cooperation in providing graves with buffer areas.
Because, continued Pramono, cemeteries in the city are not sufficient for Jakarta’s population, which currently numbers approximately 11 million people.
“It’s not possible for Jakarta with a population of 11 million people, 80 TPU is no longer possible, it needs to be increased. And we are starting to do that, we are preparing both inside Jakarta and outside Jakarta,” said Pramono.
Previously, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) would consider proposals related to regional cooperation to solve the limited burial space in the capital city.
Head of the DKI Jakarta City Parks and Forest Service (Distamhut), Fajar Sauri, said that the proposal had been raised within the Jakarta Provincial Government and was ready for further study.
“There is (a proposal regarding regional cooperation). The plan is already there. Later we need to review it again. Maybe if we can collaborate with the regions we can set up a TPU outside Jakarta,” said Fajar.
New TPU land in Jakarta
However, in Jakarta itself, Fajar said that there was already land planned to be created for a new TPU.
Fajar explained that the location is in the Tegal Alur area, Kalideres, West Jakarta, which has a land area of 66 hectares.
However, he admitted that Jakarta often faces resistance from residents when wanting to build a new TPU.
Even so, if the residential area is attached to the TPU, Fajar said that expanding the cemetery would not be a problem.
