“Later on Thursday 4 December at 14.00 WIB, we have invited the Ministry of Forestry for a presentation,” said Alex at the parliament complex, Monday (1/12).
The PDIP politician understands the public logic regarding the existence of thousands of pieces of wood that have been cut.He also agreed that there was something upstream in the major flood tragedy in Sumatra and Aceh.
“But from the material that was carried away, our logic also says that this is not just an abundance of water, but there is something upstream, on the hillside that is happening,” he said.
According to him, this case must be evaluated, because it is not impossible that a similar disaster will occur again in the future.
“Therefore, we really need a new forestry policy, which is up to date, so that disasters like this don’t happen again,” said Alex.
Even so, Alex admitted that he was reluctant to engage in polemics regarding the proposal that floods and landslides in Sumatra be declared a national disaster. He left this matter entirely to the government as the policy maker.
“The status of a national disaster is in the form of a Presidential Decree, yes. But up to now, we can see that the President himself is working very hard to order the ranks below him to immediately go to the field,” he said.
“Well, for me, regarding status, please let that be the executive’s territory, not ours in this DPR,” added Alex.
A video shows piles of thousands of pieces of wood filling Parkit Beach in Padang City, West Sumatra after flash floods occurred in the area.
In the video uploaded by the Instagram account @antaranewscom, piles of wood can be seen filling the estuary and lip of Parkit Beach on Friday (28/11).
Still in the video, the beach water looks brownish in color.Apart from piles of wood, various rubbish was also seen piled up at the location.
“On Friday (28/11), the estuary area and lip of Parakeet Beach were covered with thousands of pieces of wood and other drifting rubbish. This condition disrupted fishermen’s access and changed the appearance of the beach significantly,” said the statement in the upload.
