Attack

hit a kindergarten and hospital in the South Sudanese city of Kalogi Kordofan, killing dozens of civilians.This incident occurred last Thursday and was only confirmed by local officials to AFP on Sunday (7/12).
Essam al-Din al-Sayed, head of Kalogi’s administrative unit, said the attacks occurred in three waves.
“First it hit the kindergarten, then the hospital, and thirdly when residents tried to save the children,” he said via Starlink connection.

He blamed the attack on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and its allied group, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North faction of Abdelaziz al-Hilu.
Since April 2023, clashes between the Sudanese military and the RSF have continued to rage, killing tens of thousands of people and forcing nearly 12 million residents to flee.Independent verification of reports in the Kordofan region is difficult due to limited access, unstable communications and the deteriorating security situation.
UNICEF said more than 10 children aged five to seven years were among the dead.Meanwhile, the military-affiliated Ministry of Foreign Affairs recorded a total of 79 people dead, including 43 children.
“Killing children in their schools is a gross violation of children’s rights,” said UNICEF Representative for Sudan, Sheldon Yett.He urged all parties to stop attacks and open humanitarian access.
In recent weeks, the RSF has continued to advance eastward after capturing El-Fasher, the last military stronghold in western Sudan.This push is aimed at the oil-rich Kordofan region which is divided into three states.
The UN recorded that more than 40 thousand residents fled the area in the last month.Analysts say the RSF offensive is aimed at breaking the military’s last defenses in central Sudan and paving the way to retake major cities, including the capital Khartoum.
